Why isn't my pugs face wrinkly??
I bought a pug at a pet shop. He came with AKK papers. But he just doesn't look as wrinkly as other pugs. And he is skinny. His vet says he is perfectly healthy, and that most pugs are over weight.... But I kind of think that maybe he is not pure bred. How can I tell?.. Why isnt he wrinkly?.. Can pet stores sell dogs that are not pure bred with papers?
AKC.. typo.. He is a year old, and has many health problems. Not that I don't love him the same as a wrinkly faced pug, I was just curious.

Some Pugs have more wrinkles than others and seem to get more wrinkled with age. So your Pug ... is it a puppy or adult? Puppies seem to have less wrinkles than adults and some are just thinner than others. Most Pugs are overweight and overweight makes it more difficult for them to breath.
I'm not sure if your skinny is something like maybe the Pug has longer legs and a more sleek body? Those are just reminiscent of the Pugs from the Victorian period. They just appear taller and thinner or may even have a bit of a longer nose.
Your Pug is more than likely purebred ... the Victorian-type Pug just looks different from the AKC standard of today. http://books.google.com/books?id=0Ci-1Qz2n3MC&pg=P... Nothing wrong with your Pug ... he will still grab all the attention that a Pug usually gets from a crowd. As long as the vet says he is perfectly healthy, there's no reason to think he's not a purebred.

I hope you mean AKC and not AKK, because AKK for for a Siberian husky breed, not pugs.
If they are AKC papers, then they should be real, if you have questions, contact the AKC with your information and have them look it up. Only purebreds can have papers from the AKC. If all else fails, go back to the pet store with your doubts and questions.
As far as the non-wrinkly face, it could be that the parents did not have wrinkly faces if it is pure. Like others have said, pure-bred does not mean it is quality bred. Sometimes purebred is really inbred and then you get health defects. I hope your puppy came with some guarrantees and you have your vet check throughly at the dogs health.
Good luck

I also have a pug and her face isn't too wrinkly as yet ( she is 10 months old.) She is a pure bred. Her mum had less wrinkles than her dad does so I assume they take after one of their parents. I wouldn't worry some have more wrinkles than others. I'm sure they may come in time, if not then less wrinkles for you to clean :)

If you bought him from a pet shop there can be multiple reasons-- mostly being dogs in petstores are from overbred, poor quality, poorly conditioned dogs in the first place.
It might be a poorly bred pug, or it might have some other breed mixed in.. AKK is nothing, if you mean AKC, it's rare to find a pet store that has real AKC registered dogs, but you can try to find out more about your dogs lineage through the AKC.
Some pet stores will fake papers, or buy puppies from bad breeders who fake papers.

What's AKK? Another scam?
Pet stores sell puppy mill dogs. That means they are extremely poor quality. I've met dogs that look nothing like their breed that came from pet stores. He may be a mix, he may just be a very illy bred dog.

Petshop puppies come from puppy mills.
There is a good chance that your dog is not a purebred. Puppy mills have very poor record keeping, and often falsify paperwork just to pup "papers" on a pup. There are also scam registries that will register anything.. I have not heard of "AKK".. so it probably is a scam registry.
Petshops can sell anything, papers or not. There are genetic tests you can do that check for certain genetic markers on a dog, but not all breeds are available. I dont think this test is considered a reliable test yet either. Good luck proving the parentage of this dog otherwise.
If he is a purebred, he is not a well-bred one. When you breed poor quality dogs together, the end result is purebreds that dont look like their breed.

I think you fell for a scam.
That pup probably came from a puppy mill, and the people at
the pet shop told you he came with *AKK* papers...what is
the AKK? I doubt there is such a thing. No puppy from a puppy mill
is healthy. You probably have yourself a mixed breed and I would
stay on your toes with him, health problems are likely to sprout up

I have no idea what AKK is. Since you got him from a petshop, there is a good chance he isn't purebred (haven't you heard ANYTHING about puppy mills and irresponsible breeders?!).
