True or False: Was a prime Muhammad Ali 'ATHLETIC' enough to complete a Foul-Line Dunk?
Meaning that he'll have to jump 15 feet away from a 10 foot basket while dunking a ball (MJ did it). Also:
Do you think he was athletic (powerful) enough to shatter a backboard by dunking a basketball? (MJ did it).
Do you think at age 40, Ali was able to have great fights (Bernard Hopkins did)? At 40, Ali couldn't beat me. - Note: MJ had 40 point games at age 40.
Do you think he could have a 15 year career with only 1 serious injury (Bernard Hopkins never had a series injury)? I remember Ali's jaw being broke more then once. - Note: MJ only had 1 serious injury in his 15 year career.
Did Ali ever hold a title for 7 consecutive years (Joe Louis did for 12 years). MJ held the Scoring Title for a record holding 7 consecutive years before his 1st retirement.
As far as speed, MJ had 3 steal titles with high steal averages. It takes a quick guy to do that. Ali had fast hands but that's different from running speed. MJ is the better athlete and I just prove it!
MJ has strength (shattered backboard, foul-line dunk, & 1 serious career injury),
MJ has more endurance (10 Scoring Titles & able to play at age 40)
MJ has more consistency (10 Scoring Titles, 2 Three Peats & Etc.)
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Muhammad Ali. He's my favorite boxer & 2nd favorite athlete of All-Time. But athletic wise, he wasn't no MJ!
MJ > Ali!
D-MAN,
I own you! You've agreed with me about 1,000 times and now you're trying to call me a retard (like Kobe jockers).
KING > D-MAN
Bigredfred,
go to YOUTUBE, MJ did shatter a backboard! BTW, I know they're 2 different sports. But you don't have to be a basketball player to dunk the ball (look at T.O. from Dallas). I'm talking about 'ATHLETICS.'! You are the one that's taking them into each others sport by say could MJ fight 12 Rds. A legit response to that is, could Ali play a full NBA game and be dominate? No!
D-Man,
so you're going to listen to someone that spells who, 'WHOSE'? Lol Come one D-man, you're brighter then that (well I thought).
BTW, is ESPN retarded for voting MJ as The Greatest Athlete of the 20th Century? They compared athletes and 1,000's of people voted as well. Nothing is wrong with comparing athletes at all!
Tweety,
stop HATING! MJ did more then just 1 foul-line dunk! If you look at my other questions I show video of him NOT crossing the line! So get it right, HATER!
KING > TWEETY
Tweety,
you just a mad hater! Jordan DID shatter a backboard and you can't do anything about it because it's on video. Ha Ha! What's wrong? You're just mad that weakling Bill Russell never shattered a backboard? Lol Ha Ha That's right!
MJ the backboard shatterer > Russell the weakling can't shatter jack! Lol

Michael Jordan is the GREATEST!!!
because others said so, not because he said so.
Source(s): Ali could not dunk a missed free throw. - wdx2bbLv 71 decade ago
Ali probably didn't have the ability to dunk from the foul line. He was 6-3, 210 in his prime, and was built more like a tight end at that time. I remember Vince Lombardi drooling over Ali's athletic ability. I'd consider him a pretty good judge.
On the other hand, could Michael Jordan take a punch from Joe Frazier -- one punch -- without being knocked out? Let alone go at least 12 rounds three times? Could he deliver a knockout blow? Could he fight for 20 years (including amateur)?
Ali probably would have been champion for about 10-12 years had it not been for the whole draft business. It's impossible to compare athletes in different sports fairly; let's just say they were both great and leave it at that.

MJ never shattered a backboard. They are different types of sport. Ask yourself, could MJ take a beating from George Forman and Joe Louis and still win the fight like Ali did? I think not.

MJ did shatter a backboard.
Also, KING, I know that MJ is the GOAT and i'm not going to debate that, but I think the way you try to go about in proving this is obnoxious. This is barely even a question, it's just you trying to prove how awesome MJ was. Why do you even feel the need to do it? It's just Yahoo answers, dog

Obviously, Jordan wasn't "athletic" enough to do it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2TAJASHzHc
At 1:02, you can see his whole foot is in the lane..
Jordan never took off from behind the foul line and dunked. That's a myth.
Now that I've "shattered" the myth of the Jordan foul line dunk, let's see the link to him shattering a backboard in an NBA game...not on some European made crap backboard... Shattering a backboard only counts if you do it in an NBA game, on NBA regulation backboards.
Jordan SHARES (not holds) the record for consecutive scoring titles.
Ali was 10x stronger than Jordan... You think Jordan could hang 15 rounds in the ring with Joe Frazier? Even a glancing blow from Frazier would have sent Jordan to the canvas in many tiny pieces.
Was Muhammad Ali stupid enough to make Kwame Brown the #1 pick in the NBA draft? No. But I know who WAS stupid enough to do that. But I won't name names here.
KING - you're just upset because Jordan couldn't take off from behind the foul line and dunk it....and I just proved it.
And you're upset because Jordan ring total is DWARFED by Russell's! DWARFED, I tell you!
ESPN was paid by NIKE to name Jordan "the greatest athlete of the 20th century"... why do you think they never publicized their "criteria" for choosing the greatest?
Source(s): The only shattering Russell did was shattering the record for MOST RINGS.... 11 rings > IBM player of the year - lupin_1375Lv 51 decade ago
The athletic skills required for boxing and basketball are very different. Who knows if Ali could have done that or not? I sure don't.
- Anonymous1 decade ago
Well I'm not going to answer all of those questions but for the main question I would have to say that he would not b able to do it. Its not a matter of how athletic he is rather than what he trains for.

Dude, you're almost as retarded as them Kobe Bean-ers.
Nuff said.
*See Dude_27's comment for why you are retarded.
**To Dude_26, see why you are retarded by reading your own comments about Kobe.
Source(s): I agree with you like 100 times and disagree 60 times. I'm always overrated on Yahoo Answers. Love it!
