Sam Querrey reaches the Monte Carlo QF?

What is going on in Monte Carlo with Sam Querrey? First, he beats Carlos Moya, one of the best clay court players on the tour (and a former French Open Champion), and today he beat Richard Gasquet, who grew up playing on clay in his native France. Querrey, who is from Southern California and is NOT a clay court player at all, has really been a surprise this week. What do you think about this?

Update:

Next up for him is Novak Djokovic. I don't think Querrey has a shot in hell, but who would have guessed he'd reach this far?

I have been watching Sam this year and quite a few people have said he might do quite well this year. He is consistent and seems to take his chances well. I think he has had his run in Monte Carlo but who knows? Moya really is getting old now and Gasquet choked to be honest. (His angry looking father in the crowd probably didn't help)

What Querrey really has going for him is his serve and improved fitness. Its really great to see an American in the Monte Carlo QF and I think that Sam should definitely feel more confident going into Roland Garros. Unfortunately, I don't think that Sam will be Djokovic, if he does that would be AMAZING, but I just want a good performance from Sam that says 'I can hold my own on clay, my worst surface by far.'

I agree! Beating Moya and Gasquet has come as a rather shock, its strange lol But hey tennis is a funny old world anything can happen, Well done to Sam Querrey for getting this far! To be honest i never see the matches he played but to overcome the likes of Carlos and Richard then he has to be playing at a pretty decent level on the clay!!! I wish he beat Novak tomorrow but like you said ``no chance in hell`` i doubt it very much! He could give him a run for his money if Novak somehow messes his serve up lol i really hope soooooo!!! Im looking forward to the Nadal/Ferrer match, i love Rafa as you probably already no haha But tomorrows matches should be really entertaining Federer/Nalbandian aswell! Tell me who is your favourite tennis player? Who would you like to see win Monte Carlo this year? Vamos Rafa xxx

sadly, gasquet for all of his talent and immaculate shotmaking he just does not play matches well for some reason. he is really quite like the mauresmo between 2000-05.....his head just gets in the way too much. here he had this tremendous opportunity-with the advantage of being a better clay courter than sam-to get to the semis and he just went away in that second set. not to take anything away from sam though because he really used his opportunities and he held his nerve on a surface that could have been detrimental mentally for him. but against novak however,it would be moronic to bet against the no.3 player, really. he's far superior at this juncture.

Yes, it's absolutely shocking. I expected Querrey to get knocked out very early, but apparently he has more potential than we thought. And I think his strokes are pretty good except he doesn't look like a Federer. So we'll see how much he progresses. I mean he's still young and still has time to build muscles and become more experienced in the game. But, I don't think he has a chance against Djokovic. He's going to get blown out.

beating moya and gasquet, really surprising, i guess its just because of his serve, and he moves much better than anyone could expect; it wont be enough against novak for sure :)

what it says is how ridiculously overrated gasquet is. If he was good, he'd be reaching the later rounds of tourneys and winning some as well like Mr. Nole.

i think querrey will get crushed to be honest. NOVAK DJOKOVIC in 2 easy sets
