Do you have to wear a flag lapel pin to be a good president? Does not wearing one make you unpatriotic?

You don't need to watch the entire clips, just watch them long enough to get a good look at their lapel pins or lack thereof.

John McCain:

Ronald Reagan

JFK:

Nixon(he's actually wearing a flag pin):

Update:

I thought it was a simple question, and I did get some simple answers, but I was hoping for some more thoughtfulness.

I was suprised by Hawaiin Hibiscus, didn't thinks she would call Reagan unpatriotic and a bad president, but I guess that's her opinion.

Billy Brite, you must be talking about McCain, as he is the only one listed in the question that is still alive, so why would you say that about McCain?

Joe, you bring up a good point for discussion. Are you saying you would rather our leaders bow to even the most rediculous public opinons?

White Devil, you gave a pretty good answer, I was suprised by that based on your answers to other question, but I don't think John McCain went to reverend Hagee's church for 20 years, maybe you aren't being fair to him.

It's not really a fair question, Nixon was the first president to ever wear the pin so including JFK in that group was not fair. But to answer the question, no, attire does not make a good president. I want him/her to be patriotic, but the wearing of the flag pin doesn't do that, let their actions speak. Personally, I think they've all proven their patriotism, none more than John McCain, and if he doesn't wear it, there isn't a problem.

This is just one of those issues that cowards bring up when they are afraid they will loose on the issues that are important to Americans. It's like the race card, the sex card, the age card. I know, let's talk about the Vietnam war again. Perhaps the stock market crash in 1987, maybe we could talk about the bay of pigs or perhaps McCarthyism.

This just isn't important to Americans, and people that think it is should be ashamed of themselves, better yet, their own patriotism should be put into question. These side issues are rediculous. Real americans care about jobs, the war, taxes, the environment, crime, terrorism, education, healthcare, the constitution, individual rights, the way the government is run and so on.

You want to see someone who isn't patriotic, you look at the person who brings up issues like this.

Usually the ones with the flag pins are the least patriotic. They use the pins to make them "feel" good. Its almost as bad as those stupid bumper stickers and magnets everyone was sporting after 911. So no, id rather my president never wear any of that BS.

Americans worry so much about a flag lapel and being patriotic . Then go buy all the Communist China made stuff we can get our hands on for Christmas gifts ! Go Figure !

Of course you don't need to wear a flag pin every day to be a loyal American or a good president BUT considering the controversy wouldn't it make sense to just wear the pin?

I am fairly confident that George Washington never wore a flag pin and was an excellent President.

I think he's saving the spot for some type of African lapel pin if he gets to be president.

He might even put some type of African flag flying above the American flag.

The pin alone doesn't make you unpatriotic, but If you mix that with listening twenty years to a preacher that blasts the country you want to lead. Throw in a wife who said she has never been proud of the country she was born in, throw in a few terrorist friends. Make a couple of statements about not being concerned with white blue color workers the largest class of people in your nation and then yeah you have a man that is anything but patriotic.....................................

  • In the case of B. Hussein Obama, yes it does. He needs to convince us that he is not the America hater that he appears to be. The same goes for that idiotic spouse of his.

Not wearing a lapel doesn't make you unpatriotic but publicly REFUSING to wear one does.

    I don't think so.

I think a patriot has his own way to show his patriotic to his country.
