Why are Americans rude?

I am English and I spend a large amouht of my time in the USA on business, but I do find these American types to be very rude.Recently I was in a bar in New York and decided to get absolutley shedded. The only "lager" they had was Budweiser, so it was an awful struggle to get drunk. As I downed my 46th bottle I decided I wanted to puke, but being a gent I didnt let anyone know and secretly managed to throw up into a flower pot on the corner of the bar.It was then that I looked up and noticed an American sitting at a table eating with just a fork(no knife). In my country that is considered rude and as I punched him I told him so.

You were in NY you bloody asshole! How dare YOU be so rude to to throw the rest of us into THAT category! And have you ever heard the saying when in Rome ....blah blah...? Well it goes for the US too (and anywhere else). You'd expect some NYC Budweiser drinking asshole to drink your lager if they were in London wouldn't you? If you want English lager stay in England.

Or ask someone who doesn't drink Bud (like me) where to get it; cause I'm nice and would have either told you where to get one, or even accompany you for one and pay for it too. That's the way we treat people where I live in the USA.

When I was in London I certainly don't recall anyone being overly open and extending any extra kindness (except for the bartender at my hotel). But I don't generalize that to everyone in the whole country. Man, what is it with you lumping an entire counties "rudeness" into a judgment like that? Geesh!

A part of me wants to call you an arrogant snob - but that would be rude.

Furthermore, I can see your point.

Some people's behaviour is disgusting, unrefined and one can hardly bear it.

On the other hand, for some pasta dishes, using more than a fork is unrefined, it shows you don't have culture. You cannot "handle the noodle".

Eating spaghetti with a fork only is perfectly Italian, eating it with fork and spoon is called the "German way", cutting the pasta with a knife is a sin.

It is true that many Americans are somewhat unrefined in certain things - but that is also true for individuals from every other country.

Think before you state a "general fact" that is none.

There are differences in etiquette in different countries. You may think it is improper to eat without a knife. We may think it is rude to punch somebody because a person did not eat with a knife.

Some places that you may go to, it is considered rude if you eat quietly or do not burp while you are eating. I think that is rude, but if I happened to be in a place where the custom is different, then I would do my best not to get offended. You might should try the same.

Like you should be asking. English people are the most snobby and rude people in the world. I'm never going to your country again. First of all you people are so rude and racist to foreigners which is so ironic when all history is stealing from other countries and taking over. Second when i was in england i saw lots of people holding the fork and knife in the wrong hand. You punching him just shows how stupid and violent english people are. All you do is drink, that is all that's in your country. Even my Professor said she would never go to England again. So you see, we feel the same in return.

what gives you the right to say that about American.i have met some Americans that are rude but not all Americans are rude.i think you are rude to say that all Americans are rude.

    you are such an ignorant

We are two different cultures, and some things you consider to be normal (like puking in a flower pot) seem very rude to us. Not all Americans are rude, it just depends on who you meet. That is like me saying all English are ugly just because I have seen prince Charles on TV a few times.

Again, why must clowns on here stereotype and make ridiculous generalizations. Idiots. I think puking in a hotel flowerpot is rude. What about the poor guy who has to clean your puke up. I think people are rude to you, because of you. I am sure not all Brits get treated bad, just the dumb-asses who puke in flowerpots. Get a life and toothbrush you idiot.

    That's a cute joke!

I don't believe that is rude not to eat with a knife! Incredible if true!

Is it true the American larger is more diluted than the British larger? Really, 46?

You were out of line, if you would've looked closely you might have seen he was using a spork. It's a combination spoon, fork, and a little knife on the side. A uniquely American invention. You should apologize. : )
