strange new digit in 2003 Honda Civic odometer after Honda checkup?

After getting a free checkup offered by Honda, I noticed when driving away that there's now a zero at the beginning of the odometer: 0 10,070, instead of 10,070. Honda says I should bring it back in since they don't know why, but I'm hoping that someone here does so I don't have to take the time to do that.

the dealer has to reset the maintenance light when they do the service and that involves using the button for your trip odometer. the trip odometer has the 0.0 as the reset value. there is a good chance that the memory display got confused.

try doing this procedure to set the maintenance reminder light and see if it resets so that you don't have the leading 0.

put your ignition key into the ignition but DO NOT turn it ON.

then, with one hand, push the trip odometer button in and hold it in

while holding the trip odometer button in, use your other hand to turn the key to the ON position so that the lights on the dash come on (you do not have to start the engine)

continue to hold the trip odometer button in while you watch the Maintenance Required light. After about 10-15 seconds that light should go out. when it goes out, turn the igniton key OFF. Then release the trip odometer button.

that procedure will reset the light and hopefully undo whatever they did that caused the display error.

if that doesn't work, then you have the option to take the battery cables off and hold the ends of the two disconnected cables together for about 2 minutes. that will dispurse any stored 'black' electricity that may be powering the display digit. you will need to have your audio code to reactivate the stereo if you do this.

if you don't want to do that then at that point you'll need to go back to the dealer.

    hope that helps
