PAIN!! any ideas of pain relief until i can get to a dentist?

2 days ago i had a filling put in and the dentist said the nerve was close to it and if i have sensitivity to give them a call and come in and get a root canal. well i dont think he realize that the filling would touch the nerve and i am in pain! i called and scheduled the RC and requested some pain med which is doing NOTHING. they are not open on the weekend so i have to suffer until monday morning and try to get an emergency appt. what can i do in the meantime? ive taken every over the counter med plus this narcotic they called in for me and nothing is doing it. thanks for the help (beforehand)!

Did they tell you that they will finish the RC in one visit, usually they don't and having a RC doesn't necessarily take the pain away. It didn't for me. Try orajel pm. You can put a regular black tea bag in between your bad tooth and cheek, hold there for 30 minutes or until starts to fill better. If it doesn't help after 45 min., it's not going to. Also, chloraseptic (throat spray), you can pour into medicine measuring cup, hold liquid onto bad tooth area in your mouth for 15 seconds, then spit out. It should help briefly. Also, try heating pad. If your narcotic pain medicine is not working and none of the things I mentioned, and you are in severe pain, then go to E.R. Bring your meds with you and tell them nothing is working that you have tried. Maybe they can help make you comfortable. I hope you feel better, I'm in the same boat almost!

Try clove oil,put it on the tooth.

    I could suggest accupuncuture also.

I had severe neck face pain after an accident and accupuncture helped.

The doctor concentrated the needles in my ear.

    Good luck
