How old were your kids when they stopped using a bottle?

I saw Leah Remini on the Rachael Ray show yesterday and was a little shocked that her 3 1/2 yr old daughter was still on a bottle (6-8 a night!!!). (And she slept with them in their bed, but that's a whole other issue). My daughter was a year old when we stopped, and now my son is almost a year and still takes bottles half the time, and will soon be done with them since he seems to like sippies.

All done by one year. 3 1/2 is just crazy but the next problem is sippy cups. I see 5 year olds all the time walking around with sippy cups. By one years old to 15 months my kids where all drinking from open cups when we where home and sippy cups when we where out or if I wanted to make sure they didn't spill that day. I baby sat a five year old who told me he never drank out of a regular cup before. He had to at my house though because I didn't have a sippy for him. By 2 years old I stopped sippy's too. My mom doesn't like it but they don't spill, no more than I do anyway.

When my boys were 9 months old we threw all bottles in the trash. I began working with them on the sippy cup around 5 months so by 9 months they drank from them just fine, no need for the bottle after that.

  • My son is on Sippy cups during day, and bottle to go to sleep at night. We feed it to him, then lay him down. The only reason he is still on bottle is because of medical problems and needs the extra milk and medicine that is given at bedtime.

My first wasn't even on a bottle but I stopped breastfeeding when she turned 9 months

My second same as my first

My third was taken off the bottle at 2 because he was a very sick baby and spent lots of time in the hospital.

My little guy would never, ever take bottles! I gave up :)

Anyway, to the point - sippy cups worked from 6mo's onwards. He's just over one now & is breastfed at night and has sippycups in the day.

My daughter was about 15 months when she finally gave up the bottle.. she only one before bed at that point. I know it's supposed to be 12 months but if their not ready at that point thne they're just not ready! 3 or 4 years old is WAY too long.. wow.. Can you say rotten teeth??

i think its easier if you get them off bottles (not milk) by 12 months.

all 3 of mine stopped with bottles at 11 months old. they continued to have full fat milk in a sippycup each evening tho.

they went from sippycup to big boy cups between 2 and 2 and a half.

mum wanted to keep breast feeding me, but i refused the breast at 9mths so had to go on a bottle.

i pushed the bottle away at a year and refused to drink milk.

mum then put me straight onto a regular cup (not a sippy cup). i spilt my drink a lot while i got used to it, but after a month or so i stopped spilling and was fine.

    - thought at 28 i still spill a little bit! lol

i'm pregnant with my first and i hope to have her/him on breast until he/she is one, and then have the baby drinking from a cup.
