What flea/tick preventive do you use on your smoothehaired Dachshund?

I just applied a small tube of Frontline to my dachshund and because she is a shorthaired variety it kind of spread all over the back of her neck........hands off till it absorbs???

I have 2 short hair mini dachshunds. I use Frontline also. I try to start applying between shoulder blade and go down the back a small way. I try to make sure it stays where they can't lick it...and yes, you do not want to touch. Just give the medicine time to absorb.

Use K9 advantix it is good for fleas and ticks. Spread the hair apart as much as possible and try to put it right on the skin. Do this at his neck and a few inches lower down his back and then a few inches lower again towards his tail. By not putting it all in one spot it might not run all over so badly. Yes dont touch it until it drys and make sure he doesnt like it. K9 advantix is waterproof after 24 hours and yours might be too, so after 24 hours or so i give my dogs a bath to get that greasy feeling off of them.

I use frontline and I found that works best on my smooth haired doxie, but because the hair is short I go from the back of his neck to about mid back.

Just make sure you don't wash your hands when you touch him if it gets on you.

Also a good rule is give them a bath 3 days before you apply the frontline or 3 days after.

Put it at the nape of the neck - where the dog can't lick it and also can't get her paw on it and lick it off her paw. It is insecticide so it is nasty stuff. Don't touch it for 24 hours.

Advantix is great because it repels ticks in addition to killing them, but it is dangerous if you have cats. If you have cats then you should not use Advantix, use Frontline instead.

Well, the previous owner had like 6 Dachsies, and she told us to wash it with Dawn dish soap mixed with water, and it gets rid of fleas, and also gives them a really shiny coat.
