Why does the church allow mathematics as a tool for birth control but not physics or chemistry?
Good point KAL, I guess the unnatural state of celibacy is envious of others enjoying sex recreationally, so they only allow procreational sex
robert , by the church i mean the catholic church, obviously.
lady florence, i hope you're not baptist...someone might think you're dancing.
lorenzo, in my opinion moral law if it exists has no place in the bedroom of consenting adults. Over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign. I would think premarital sex is banned to avoid doubt about paternity, and to keep the church in the business of performing weddings. The Polynesians, Native Americans, etc. etc. were doing quite well without your "moral and natural laws" until the church inculcated shame and guilt.

My husband and I use the 'standing up ' method for birth control. We currently have ten children.

Because mathematics results in more babies, therfore more baptisms, confirmations, tithes, increased membership (2 praying is better than one!) whereas the other methods of birth control are effective thus limiting future revenues for the parish----the individual's quality of life, preservation of assets is no where near as important as the survival and thriving for the Church !
If they could tithe the infant effectively they would, but the only infants with a regular income are those on general assistance and last I heard the county did not allow garnishments welfare payments !
With the religous right in power however there's no telling how long this may stand !

There is no shortage of information from the RC Church on this. Read Humanae Vitae, for instance. It is NOT "to make more babies to tithe" or to get more suckers or anything like that- if that were true, why would the Church be against premarital sex? Why would they discourage anyone from having sex? The answer to your question lies in the realm of of natural and moral law, clearly explained by Church leaders and theologians for centuries..

Because the mathematical method requires people to exercise self control over their sex drive...the other methods allow people to give in to their sexual desires whenever they want! Perhaps "the Church" thinks that the former method builds a lot more character than the latter methods???

Because the physics and chemistry might actually work...
The church relies on lust to overcome the mathematics.
It all makes sense once you realize that the church doesn't want birth control to work. More babies means more followers.

You're generalizing again. Not all churches forbid the use of birth control. Be specific with your assertions Skippy.
