Can I save some pureed fruit with milk to use tomorrow for my five and a half month old daughter?

We were given one of those steam cooker/puree machine things as a present and today I decided to make some banana and apple puree for my daughter, it was a bit thick so as I breastfeed I expressed a little of my milk in there which made it nice and sweet as well ( the convenience of breastfeeding lol) anyway my daughter loved it but has fallen asleep. Can I put the rest in a container to use tomorrow as I was a bit over enthusiastic and made quite a lot and it seems such a waste to throw it away. Also if you have any good recipes for fruit combinations that would be nice. I was recommended apple/pear/banana with a sqeeze of orange juice.

If you haven't fed her directly from the container then yes. Also, don't add orange juice as it's too acidic and will give diaper rash. Even my 9 month old can't handle orange juice yet.

    Fruits combinations:

    Apple pear mango

    Mango Kiwi Banana

Apple pineapple (canned with no added sugar, it's less acidic) and blueberries (blueberries can take a bit to get used to)

    Peach, Pear Mango

    Apple, Raspberry

    Raspberry, Banana

    etc...

Pretty much you can mix what ever you want together. Baby's don't have the preconceived notions about what should be mixed and what shouldn't. Some things I have learned - Kiwi should not be frozen, it gets very bitter and pineapple is one of my guys favorites and freezes well. Also, banana should not be steamed/cooked - just mash it up raw and add it in. Only the hard fruits like apple and pear need to be cooked. All the rest are fine just done in the blender.

Of course you can, but there are some things to consider before you do:

    1) Did you feed your daughter directly out of the container? There may be bacteria in the food, if you did feed her from the same container you plan to re-use. If you put her serving in a separate dish, and the original puree was left un-touched, then you can store it in the refrigerator for up to a week, and up to 3 months in the freezer (as you would while storing fresh breast milk).

    2) How long was the puree left out? If it was left out for longer than 4 hours, I would say that you should not consider storing it, because the milk has passed expiration at that point.

If you are clear from those two considerations, than you should be fine.

if you fed her from the same container then bacteria from her mouth will grow over night and become a problem tomorrow. if this was the case, bin it and next time put into different contrainers. it's really handy using ice cube trays. that way it's already in the right size meal when you defrost.

if you used a different container then it should stay good for 24 hours.

my baby liked things like mango, banana and orange juice (we just had that today with a bit of natural yogurt). papaya is lovely too. kiwi, pear... just mix it all and see what happens.

banana and avocado is also a good one and avocado contains good fatty acids so you feel really good giving it to them lol.

blueberries were nice too. if she refuses something try adding the tiniest amount of sugar just to get her to accept it.

It should be safe as long as the container you used has been properly cleaned and you refrigerate it right away. But, your baby's saliva (and perhaps yours?) will be in the mixture and since it doesn't sound as if you refrigerated it promptly then the bacteria in the saliva could grow. So for this and other questions and re other combos, please check with your pediatrician as "should be safe" would not be a good enough answer for me. Why take chances with your baby's health for the sake of a few spoons of apple and banana? In future, as soon as you make the food refrigerate, in a sterile container, what portion of the food you don't think your baby will eat.

Would you throw out any of the individual components tomorrow?

Breastmilk? Nope good for 8 days

Fruit? Nope good for at least a week even pureed.

Plus breastmilk will inhibit bacterial growth in the puree in any case.

I see no problem. If you wanted to be over cautious 3 days would be the advised time limit from what I have read.

you should use your own judgement. baby food bought at the store if you only use half of it one day you can put it back in the fridge and use again the next day. what i did is feed my baby half of the food or whatever he could eat, then use the rest either later that day or right away the next day. But real fruit mixed with breast milk I wouldnt reuse the next day! Just to be on the safe side.

Yes you can use it tomorrow. It might change to a darker color because of the banana's but it will be fine. Plus it might be a little more watery. I used to do this with my own children. I have 6 children and I also breastfed. Good luck, home prepared food is the safest and healthiest but the hardest!!

If you spoon the puree into a separate bowl to feed from, it should be ok. But if you feed directly from the big bowl of puree, it should be tossed. I would go by the recommended refrigeration time for breastmilk as to how long you can safely keep your puree.

Keep it, as long as its in the fridge! I make all my own baby food for my daughter, i make a big batch all at once, seperate it in to ice cube trays then pop them out and put them in feezer bags, ready to take a couple out and defrost. As for food ideas, i just went to the shop, bought tons of diffrent fruit and just made it up as i went along. one of my little girls faves is kiwi fruit and bannana, advacado and pear, melon and stawberry (i mix this with a bit of baby rice to thicken it up) Sweet red apple and bannana, Peach and melon, Bannana and peach. My daughter seems to like unusal mixtures of fruit and veg, just experiment, you will soon find out what she likes and dislikes.

Did you feed her out of the container, then no. If not then yes. Her saliva contaminates it. Go crazy, any combination will probably be good. Try veggies and fruits to.
