Need recommendations on best places to live near Newark, NJ?
Have 2 kids, so we need great schools. Reasonable access to Manhattan is a plus. Would like 4+ bedrooms and a neighborhoody town. Would prefer a good sought after location (not overly concerned about price of real estate). Need a great place to raise kids... lots of activities for the kids, friendly people, nice town etc.

Glen Ridge and Upper Montclair have what you are looking for, but I hope you are a millionairre to afford the homes and property taxes.
Both are beautiful towns and have alot to offer residents. The schools - especially in Glen Ridge are some of the best in the state. Trains and buses to Manhattan go through both towns.
Some other towns to consider, that may not be quite as pricey - - Bloomfield, Verona, Cedar Grove, West Caldwell, Roseland.
Essex Fells is beautiful, but also VERY pricey.
Denville is a bit farther out, but a wonderful small-town type atmosphere. There is access to a train, but I think it only runs weekdays - you would have to check www.njtransit.com
These are more suburbs than say Jersey City, Bayonne or Hobokken, which are very close to NYC.
And if the schools aren't to your liking there are TONS of private schools you could send your kids to.
