I assume that the doctor did an abdominal and pelvic CT scan. Kidney trauma is graded from grade 1 to 5, with grade five being the most serious. A doctor may be content with observing a grade 1, 2, or 3 injury under certain conditions such as no active bleeding and stable blood pressure. Every situation is different, and there is often blunt trauma to other body organs.
I could not see a doctor telling a patient his kidney will heal without doing a CT scan.
