Burning data files onto a DVD-R disc but not viewable on DVD Player?

Hi there

I have a load of video files (MPEGs) i want to burn to a DVD-R blank disc and when i do burn them and have them on disc they will not play on my DVD Player. This is strange because when i burn the same files onto a CD-R it plays on the DVD player. Does anyone know why i am unable to view this DVD-R the same way i can view the CD-R full of files?

Is it something to do with the fact that a DVD-R has to be formatted in a certain way for a DVD player to correctly read it and this is more easily done with CD-Rs?

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

Katie

Check if your dvd player can read DVD-R disks.

Some DVD players, more so the newer models, can read computer related files such as MP3, Images etc. Those will be read off a CD. A DVD has to be burned through DVD burning software to a DVD disc. (They look the same but they're not) Simply copying the MPEGs without putting them through a DVD burner software and closing the DVD (Finishing) will not work on all players.

try using windows media player if you have it.

open windows media player, click on the burn tab at the top and select burn data/DVD from the options. Then drag and drop what you want into the right hand column then burn. But don't forget to change it back to audio when you want to burn Cd's.

If that doesn't work then its probably your DVD player, some will play Cd's and mp3 but others wont play DVD format.

ISO represents a CD / DVD image. You should not burn the .ISO like any other file on a data disc. Instead, you should burn its "contents". One single ISO file on a DVD will not work. You should install some "disc image burning" program (like Nero, or Alcohol 120%, or if you have Windows Vista / 7, you won't need a third-party program), then just open the ISO (or in Nero, select the option "CD/DVD Image", then select the ISO file), and then just click "Burn"... After the burn process completes, you should now see several files on your DVD (if it's a DVD movie, you should see the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders), instead of the single .ISO file.

I had the same problem once. I figured out that I needed to use DVD+R not DVD-R. Once I burned my files to a DVD+R disc, it started right up in my DVD player.

    Hope that helps. =)

If they play on a CD player you have burnt them in VCD format, make sure you burn them as DVDs and don't forget to finalise the disc, then they'll play in a DVD player. If you need any further help please feel free to message me & I'll solve your problems .

Check the formats your DVD Player will read.

It is possible that you need to use DVD+R not DVD-R

    Remember to finalize the disk.
