Multicultural Americans? How do you see yourself? Which culture do identify with?

I ask this question because my granddaughter is half white and half black. If you have this heritage, which culture do you identify with. If you were taught to identify with both cultures and the public identifies you as black only, how does that make you feel? What is the solution to this very biased point of view on behalf of both blacks and whites?

I think a lot of times (not always, but usually) we respond to our mother's culture and ethnicity a little bit more than our father's. From the simple fact we are so close and share a sort of "inimacy" with our mothers as babies and small children.

I respond more to my Japanese heritage, rather than my German-American heritage.

BB the features may be black but...the question is what CULTURE do you Identify with. I myself am mixed not black and white..puerto rican and black. I mostly identify with the puerto rican culture. That's how I was raised. Not that I didn't try to learn about black people(I did), I just identify more with the puerto rican culture because I grew up around my puerto rican family members..and I grew up in Hawaii at that.

I don't get upset when people only see me as black...because I am black, but I just let them know that I am puerto rican as well and I just move on.
