Gas powered weed wacker question?

If all the identifying labels,etc...are not visible..How can you tell if it's a 2 cycle or 4 cycle engine for the proper fuel/oil mix?

Is it obvious? Is there a way to tell by visual inspection.?

Update:

Well...what is the difference between 2 cycle and 4 cycle oil? I have one with a 40 to 1 ratio and another with a 32 to 1 mixture...

My question remains...How can you tell if it's a 2 or a 4?

Update 2:

Thanks Winter....but you can see the piston regardless..You never have to add oil to either except for the fuel mixture.Which is what my origional query was about....Thanks! Have a great summer!

Most weed whackers have 2 stroke engines. The only way I can think of to check is to remove the muffler. Slowly pull the starter cord. If you can see the piston through the exhaust port its a 2 stroke engine. Usually the gas tank or gas cap will say the fuel mixture.

add: if it says 40:1 or 32:1 that's the fuel mix for a 2 stroke engine.

Electric will have more torque (spinning power) so it should be able to provide the performance your gas powered tools give you... Unless you've got a small block V8 on the end of your weed wacker! Also, electric should save you some money in the future, as gas prices rise and also it's more economically friendly if that bothers you too. I also believe that electronic weed wackers are a lot cheaper to buy initially and as they only have a couple of parts, it should be easy and cheap to fix should something go wrong.

Maybe this is too simple but if it is a 4 stroke engine, there has to be a place to fill the oil. No place to put oil in then it is a 2 stroke because the oil goes in with the gas.
