Recconecting DVR Box to VCR and tv so I can record on tape.?

I just moved and now of course all of my cables are messed up (wasn't supposed to end up that way!) And now I can't get it back to where it was before.

I have Charter Digital Cable and my box is a Motorola DCT6416 III.

My vcr/dvd combo is an Emerson. My tv has the standard 3 plug (red, yellow, white) and cable outlet in the back.

Before I had the tv connected with the vcr via the red, yellow and white cord....and also one of those black cords connecting the cable outlet in the back of the tv to one of the two outlets in the back of the vcr.

Should that go into the in or out?

Then, the dvr came with this big mess of cables....there is 5 or 6 on each end....2 reds, 2 whites and a blue and green.

Where should those go? My vcr has outlets for blue, green, ect ect.

I'm sorry if it sounds confusing, because I'm very confused. I just want my tv back.

The ultimate goal is to have it so I can record tv onto video tape so it doesn't take up all of my dvr space.

Thanks.

Update:

I have it now so that I can watch tv but I can't record.

I have my red, yellow, white cords in the back of my tv, to the r,y,w output .

now i just need to figure out how to set up the dvd/vcr player.

there should be two outputs labeled as such. one goes the the vcr input (most likely a coax cable). The other one would go to your tv set to an input
