Can a gay man fall in love with a woman?

My best friend came out of the closet at 13. He has never had any desire to be with a woman and never found them attractive. His family has always been very accepting of his sexuality so when he brought home his partner for his family to meet, everyone really liked him. His partner got along with all his friends and family right away. He was with his partner for 10 years and both men had a loving relationship. Then about a month ago he left his partner for a woman. He said that he fell in love with the woman for her heart and who she is and not if she has a penis or not. His family and a lot of his friends are upset with him. His partner is heartbroken. I mean I will stand by my friend no matter what, but is this even possible? Or could it be something else. He is not bi, for sure and he is not straight, so what is up?

It happens the other way all the time. And this exact thing happened to a good friend of mine a few years ago. In fact he is married to a lovely woman and they have 3 wonderful kids now. They are planning a vacation with his ex-partner and the partner's new boyfriend (the wife is very cool and secure).

    People love who they love.

I wish people could just get over this whole stupid black & white notion of sexuality.

    Love isn't about body parts.

Human brain is a very misterious marvel. Why couldn't a MAN (gay or not) naturally fall in love with a WOMAN?? Come on, if the human brain is capable of very weird things like aberrations such as sexual perversion, fetishism, and many other unnatural things, why wouldn't be possible for a gay to fall in love with a woman?? Of course he can!!

I have actually seen this happen. Maybe for the time being he is confused about this woman. And he wants to try something new, I do believe he is gay, I really do.

But in my opinion he is gay, in due time, he will go back to a man. He is gay...

he might want a baby. many gay men sacrifice their desires to be with another man to have a family, but its hard and later in life it will bring problems to both of them. talk to him so he wont make any mistakes, im not saying the woman is a mistake but if he is doing it to have a family, this is the wrong way for a gay man

sounds like he is just needing the comfort and love of a woman, not in a sexual way. He will probably still see his gay lover.

Maybe he is in love with a woman. It's possible.

Sometimes these things happen. We can't just strictly place people in columns or labels, there are always exceptions.

The only thing that bothers me, is your friend seemed to be hasty, throwing away a ten year relationship. I hope he doesn't regret it

Sounds to me like his sexuality is confused. Maybe he subconsciously changed his mind to be straight. Just stand by as a friend, and help him out. It's going to be real rough for him!

He is living in illusion. He will never be happy. Or perhaps this woman is a lesbian and they both want children. ..another mistake. To bad he is not able to see his mistake. If a penis doesn't matter to him, then why not not stay with his partner. A vagina will leave him stone cold..and more than a little "soft hard-ed" in bed.

I honestly think that he's just trying to feel more accepted. No matter what not everyone is gonna be okay with his sexuality. It may have been just one person getting to him or possibly a change of heart.
