Is it me or is this check thing just weird, isn't a check for everyone socialism?

It is crazy, but it is not socialism, because it has nothing to do with government controlling the means of production in the economy.

It's Bush and Congress pandering to the electorate and to businesses who are so desperate to avoid a recession that they will support a short term shot in the arm even though it means a larger deficit and will create to long term economic problems and instability.

In a way you could say that seeing the defention of Socialism. But thing is this ressesion we are in it causes and the govement hopes people go, buy something electronic, some tools, go to a resturant, go to attractions. They hope this will not all go to gas tanks, paying bills, or anything that is oweing to other companys. Sad thing is this is what mostly is bringing people down, the oweing money to other companys or its enough for there gas tanks beacuse of high prices.

These checks are supposed to stimulate the US Economy but what is the Government doing to stop the loss of jobs for US citizens? I just read that the Unions are so demanding that GM can no longer afford to build cars in the USA - they will have them built in Mexico!!....

and my guess is that Bush is laughing in his Beer.

generally I would agree, but two years ago the government kept tax money on $14000 income. I'll take the check just to get that money back.

It's a tax rebate with special considerations for those whose taxes went by the way side due to retirement or disability.
