You don't usually get a "real answer" out of me, but here goes:
My mother. She attended an unaccredited public high school, worked her way through junior college in order to be able to attend college, which she also worked her way through. Harvard for graduate school, married, had a child, divorced, got her doctorate. She married again, he brought a child to the marriage, and she had a third. She started her own company, and started two successful businesses with my father. She was the 11th woman ever in the US to win special recognition in her largely male profession. She and my father divorced, he got the businesses they started together, which failed; hers continued, though she also began to teach in order to make ends meet, as she received custody of all 3 children, even the one she didn't give birth to. She, along with other women, founded a mentoring program for younger women in their field. She became wealthy through hard work and good luck. She is 82, semi-retired, still active (physically and professionally), still creating, and is going to receive a lifetime achievement award from her profession, which she refused at first, because she, as she says "has no plans to die anytime soon."

There was this person crossing a rail track the other day, when the train was pretty much speeding towards him! Not a suicide case, but a person in a hurry to get across: true grit!
