If I believe X while you believe Y, then which of us is going to hell?

Who here thinks that's an effective conversation starter for a religious outreach dialogue? A member of a certain church apparently thought so with me nearly 20 years ago -- the pastor, no less! I'll leave the denomination unnamed.

By the way, anyone know how the Boston Movement is doing these days?

Update:

He didn't literally say X and Y; they are shorthand I employed here for some particular doctrinal difference we had, and as I recall the point was trivial to the larger Christian gospel message.

Update 2:

The question is loaded with the presumption that doctrinal impurity is a damnable offense. Does that strike you as valid?

Doctrinal purity is nice, but it's not absolutely necessary for someone to go to heaven.

Last year Pope Benedict XVI said that Protestant communities, though imperfect doctrinally, are still in some sense in communion with Christ's Church -- even if that communion is not entirely complete.

In other words, he was saying that Protestant communities have doctrinal impurity -- but it's okay, because they are still Christians and these communities can still be used by God as a way to save people.

Catholicism is the "fast track," though.

Depends on what X and Y represent. For example, if X is human sacrifice and Y is self-sacrifice to relieve human needs, X is going to hell. For more about the destinations of X and Y, see the Parable of the Sheep and Goats in Matthew 25.

    Cheers,

  • First of all, you should believe in Hell, and I dont for instance;). Second: the three main monotheistic Faiths, all believing in Hell, believe in the very same God; so, no believers/followers of any of the 3 main Faiths, who behave according to their book, will go to Hell;)

Presidents have little to no longer something to do with the financial device in this usa. different than yak-yak, it quite is. it quite is not any doubt one in all the beauties of our device; the financial device distinctly plenty runs itself and while the government gets in touch it frequently overdoes it and makes issues worse. what's great is that even Democrats have better to the factor of information this common theory. A Jan., 1992 quote of bill Clinton, while asked via a brand manhattan situations reporter what he advance into going to do to advance the financial device if he have been to be elected in November: "i do no longer could do something; the financial device will %. up back like it continuously does and that i gets the credit." the situations reporter, laid low with a techniques-left wing syndrome, advance into unquestionably appalled at one in each of those cavalier and cynical answer. Which it could have been yet it advance into additionally the actuality.

What is in your heart and God's mercy are the determining factors on where you are going at death, not a doctrinal dispute. If you are a Roman Catholic and avail yourself of the Sacraments, you will have a better chance of getting to Heaven. All of the different denominations do not use all of the seven sacraments, thus for them it is more difficult to get to Heaven.
