Being a natural-born mainer, I know that lobsters like cold water (ever swim in the ocean in Maine? brrr). But cold is a relative term, they don't like really super cold water, so aren't real common in the far north (not a polar creature).

Lobsters are cold blooded creatures, the largest lobsters live in what we think of as very cold water, out of Boston Mass and off the coast of Alaska. Salt water can get below 32 deg f. and still not freeze so in these areas it would not be unusual for the water temp to be 0 celsius or below, of course there are a smaller varities in the southern climates that would do well at warmer temps but anywhere the deeper the water the colder.

Water freezes at 33degrees f. so above 34 and above degrees f.
