Music is supposed to help convey the message, or overall emotion, of a scene.

Sometimes, I don't understand the music choices for some scenes. But other times, typically in scenes about tragedy, it completely makes sense.

I have an episode of OLTL on tape. It's the one when Bo accidentally shot Sam on The Palace roof. The song that played was Blue Planet by Donna Lewis, and the scene was beautifully done with the song.

Music sets the tone for a scene. It's not just in soaps, it's in any TV or film.

It can add to the suspense, or more emotional scenes and make things more dramatic.
