No, of course not. There is absolutely no evidence of such a thing although some twist Scriptures because of ignorance to claim such nonsense. It is also theologically impossible and if true would mean that Jesus is an impostor as to being the Messiah. It would make Him the best liar in history. Obviously this is an attack on faith from the father of lies. There is also the problem of the fact that history has not recorded any descendents. Also, if Jesus was not an only child why was the blessed mother given to St. John and the Church for care by Jesus on the cross. That would have not happened if there were siblings in that culture. Such nonsense is just anti-Catholic bigotry without a shread of evidence. God bless! In Christ Fr. Joseph

Not the VIRGIN Mary. But Mary, Jesus' mother...through human conception with her husband, Joseph, had other children. I know the Bible specifically talks about Jesus' brother James. Jesus tells James to take care of Mary as He hung on the cross.

No. Hebrew and Aramaic didn't have a word for cousin, or other types of extended family (e.g., nephew), so they used "brother" and "sister" to describe relatives other than immediate brothers and sisters. Proof of this is all over the Old testament- see Gen 14:14, for example. Lot is Abraham's "brother", but Lot was the son of Aran, Abraham's deceased brother (see in Gen Chapter 11), making him Abraham's nephew, not brother. Jacob is called the "brother" of his uncle Laban (Gen 29:15). Sometimes "brother" could mean just friend or ally (2 Sam 1:26, 1 Kings 9:13, 20:32, Amos 1:9). Also, Jesus is called "the son of Mary" (Mk 6:3), not "a son of Mary". The Greek expression used in Mark implies he is her only son. This is not an exhaustive list of examples and proof.

Of course she had other children, the Bible says so. Anybody can read it and see that it mentions his brothers and sisters. These were physical not spiritual. Mary was a wife to Joseph in every way after Jesus was born.

Jesus had at least 6 siblings. The New Catholic Encyclopedia (1967 Vol IX, p. 337 says "the Greek words aldephoi' and adelphai" used at Matthew 13:55,56 have the meaning of full blood brother and sister in the Greek speaking world of the Evangelist's time and would naturally be taken by his Greek reader in this sense." Another word, syggenon' would have been used if it meant relatives and cousins.

    Yes.

"All these with one accord devoted themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers." (Acts 1:14)

"After this he went down to Caper'na-um, with his mother and his brothers and his disciples; and there they stayed for a few days. " (John 2:12)

"Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him for the crowd." (Luke 8:19)

"While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him." (Matthew 12:46)

"Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all this?" (Matthew 13:55-56)

  • I do not think Mary had other biological children. As we are all Brothers and Sisters in Christ I believe the Brothers and Sisters referred to in the Bible are believers.

Can you imagine having the Lord our God as your child? I would imagine her hands were quite full.

Yes, Jesus had a brother. She didn't remain a virgin for life.

i am no christian bible expert but i heard from many sources that jesus (not his real name) had brothers and sister. i do not accept his mother's story of virginity, nor his divinity, but that doesn't mean he himself wasn't a living person.

I saw a documentary recently where they said she did. Fascinating idea. Families in that day were large I think so it isn't unrealistic. . .
