My guess is you should provide more information on the year and make of the vehicle. You see, each one is different and in order to start guessing on what could cause it it would be best to know what we are guessing on. I would hate to guess that it is a part your car doesn't even have! Is you check engine light on? Do you have a check engine light? I would say you should look into the fuel management systems to start with. Look at the fuel trims - they can give you tons of information. If you do not have the proper diagnostic equipment for this try taking it to your shop for proper diagnosis.

the high rev like your pushing the gas could be a couple things, you got a leak somewhere in the throttle intake and air is getting in when it shouldnt cause it to rev high, or your throttle is stuck or needs to be adjusted, it could be open more then it should be.

another cause is the tps throttle position sensor.

no one can realy tell you the real reason just give you a bunch of guesses i would have someone that knows cars to check it out or have a shop look at it, some shops will look at it for free and give you an estimate, some will charge 60 to 80 bucks just to run tests on it. good luck
