No, it's not just you. But the job of teaching sex ed to kids doesn't belong primarily to the schools. And, Crusader, it's definitely not the government's responsibility to teach sex ed.
PARENTS ARE NOT TEACHING THEIR KIDS MUCH OF ANYTHING. Most parents with whom I've had the dubious good fortune of talking are truly quick to stand up for their childrens' "rights", some even wanting to be their kids' best friends. Myself, I don't believe kids have ANY rights, except for those that adults give them. But these parents seem truly surprised when their little girl comes home knocked up or when they get the call from an ER nurse that their "model son" was just brought in by ambulance due to an overdose/suicide attempt. These "wonderful" parents don't want to risk an "ugly" confrontation about sex or drugs, so they practically ignore their children. And it's not just inner-city "ghetto families" - it's also upper-middle and upper class "families" having these problems. These parents want someone else to take the responsibility of teaching their children about life, including sex, as well as history, spelling, and math. Better to have someone to blame than to take responsibility oneself, right?

I agree completely, but it's kind of like talking to a wall sometimes with these younger people. Remember what it was like being a teenager? "Oh, that will never happen to me!". UGH. And then you have idiots in politics who want to teach abstinence-only sex ed classes. Yeah, good thinking, guys (not).
