Minneapolis. Anyone living there please respond.?
I am considering a transfer from Detroit, MI to Minneapolis, MN. Can anyone tell me about the city? Housing, traffic, crime, people. I would be at the international airport there, so any info on that location would be helpful. Being that I'm coming from Detroit, which is consistently ranked as the worst city in America, I figure it would be an improvement.

You will find many similarities and many differences. I wouldn't live right in Mpls or St Paul. The airport is down by the Mall of America and Bloomington. The suburbs might be better to live.
You will like it more as far as being more scenic, somewhat safer, traffic is a bit better and jobs can be found here. The economy isn't as bad as Michigan's is right now.
Winter is way worse, though. Be ready.

Well, I'm not exactly from the area...but I do visit every summer. I have alot of family in Various subburbs.
Housing...In downtown there are a lot of apartments a little lofts and things like that...But if you live alittle out of the actualm city...say, bloomington, which is practically minneapolis there a a bunch of nice nieghborhoods 2with quaint little houses. My aunt lives in one just across the street from the mall of america. Also, if you considered moving even a little more out of town...mabey a 30-60min commute, there are a lot of nice suburbs w/ even bigger houses.
Traffic- it's not horrible, but it can be pretty bad around rush hour-like 4-6 pm...especially if you live in a suburb. My grandpa lives in Stillwater and it usually takes us like a half hour to get to the mall, or hius friends house...but if we come home to late it can take almost 2 hrs getting home. There are ways around it though...like backroads.
Crime- I don;t thnk it's anywhere as bad as detroit. Of course, it is an urban area so there is some crime...but compared to most other similar cities...it's practically nothing.
People...almost everyone i've met has been very friendly. There hacve been few people I regret meeting...but then again, they were mostly family friends.
extra...there;s alot to do in Minneapolis, All kinds of malls, the mall of america, and every suburb has got it's own little mall to...also bunches of outlet malls, the state fair is like the 3rd largest in the US and is loads of fun, childrens' museum, science center, There's a rennisance fair, and a theme park-Valley fair, there are plenty of lake beaches and alot of outdoor activities. In the winter theres all the skining and snow. Theres actually a ski resort about 1-2 hrs away that turns into a mimi waterpark during the summer...I dunno what else...
I hope this helps

Taxes are a bit high, but I'd agree with you...anything is better than Detroit.
I'm from just outside of Cleveland, OH, so I'm a bit biased.
Good luck.
