Wood chips and termites?

We recently had our yards tree's pruned for the spring season. The landscaper said the wood chips they'd processed from the cut tree limbs could be strewn under the tree's to prohibit weeds from sprouting up. When I asked about the potential of termites once the chips dried she said termites won't inhabit fresh chipped wood.

But it wont always be fresh of course. It will dry in air and beneath tree shade which can lend to retained moisture, given it rained the day after the pruning took place and the pile of fresh wood chips she left was soaked.

I've researched a bit about termites and the like and I'm wondering if anyone has any personal experience with this. I don't want to put wood chips under my lovely tree's only to have termites find a veritable Schmorgasborg at their disposal.

My tree's and I thank you for any answers provided. ;)

Wood chips will not harbor termites not carpenter ants.

Termites create (and eat) in larger wood sources than chips. They burrow through the wood that is undisturbed, dry and dark. Termites and Carpenter Ants would love to live in main wood frame of a home. Carpenter Ants will also live in a rotting tree limb still on a tree.

I don't like wood chips due to mold (I'm allergic).
