What happened to the first 10 commandments?

After Moses smashed the first set of commandments because everyone was worshipping the golden calf, what happened to the broken pieces of the tablets? The second set went into the arc of the covenant, but is the first set still out in the desert somewhere?

The broken pieces of tablets from the first set were also set into the Ark of the Covenant.

The ark contained The FIRST and SECOND sets of tablets, Aaron's Rod, and one portion of Mana. All as symbols to remind us of what happened in the desert.

The first 10 Commandments were different than the second set - they included a higher law to be administered under the Melchezidek priesthood. When the people proved too immature and disobedient, Moses broke them and was given the second set, which are more simple and can be administered under the Aaronic Priesthood because the people were not worthy or ready for the higher commandments. I assume if they were carved in stone, they eventually went the way of the earth - wore down into smaller pieces or turned back into dust.

In the desert somewhere, right next to those golden plates that old Joe carelessly mislaid!

It went to commandment heaven... and there were only 8, the second set included the things about other gods and graven images.

They were still in the Egyptian Book of the Dead centuries before Moses was born.

    The Bible does not say.

But think about if somebody collected them up then. How much do you think they could get on ebay for that.

Buck, I agree - people will buy anything on eBay. I wonder if I should start the bidding at $10.51????
