Internet Explorer start menu icon problems?

My computer originally came with Internet Explorer 6. I installed Internet Explorer 7, and then uninstalled it, but after that, the Internet Explorer 7 icon is still in the start menu, and it is labeled Internet Explorer, it is not a shortcut. How do I make that icon go back to the Internet Explorer 6 icon, since I removed the 7th one, but that icon is still there? Yes, I am doin this on the Administrator account, and it works fine on my other accounts.

well, even with the ie7 icon, it will be a shortcut to ie6. if ur very desperate and want to change it back, u can:

delete the shortcut(even though u say it is not a shortcut, all start menu icons are shortcuts.) go to the Ie6 icon on ur desktop, or wherever u have it, and right click and select pin to start menu.

another way to do it is leave the shortcut w/o deleting, and right click, click properties, and click change icon. change the icon back to ie6.

btw i dont see why u wud uninstall ie7. it is very much better than 6.

Encountered exactly this problem 2 days ago. Followed your tip to run Explorer. -- then AVG 8.5 threat detection pops up saying Trojan horse downlader generic.8.AGCR Have disconnected the machine from network while I investigate further. Any further advice will be most welcome. UPDATE: This was on someone elses computer who had asked me to look at. I found the file msas.exe and various files I could not delete. Fronm googling it is clear that msas is part of MS antispyware 2009, and this is a nasty which pretends to be from Microsoft and tries to spoof you into parting with money to fix the problem. Well, deleting a few files did not work, so I thought I had better do a clean reinstall. I checked the external back up disc and found the owner had not backed up for a few months so I awaited the owners return to findout what files needed to be preserved before doing a reinstall. The owner has returned and we are presently backing up my documents, but the the owner now reveals that he was taken in by the spoof messages that looked as if they were from microsoft and he paid $45 to the crooks. he has now cancelled the card and is trying to get the money back..... Meanwhile I am going to have to reinstall his system.

I think you are using XP. The do as follows

    Right click on the desktop

    Choose Properties

Choose the tab( may be Display or Wallpaper) where you set wallpaper (i forgot the tab as i m using vista)

Look at the bottom there is a button about Desktop or something like that click on that

Now you can see some of your destop icons like mycomputer, my document and Internet .

clear the checkbox for internet explorer and click on apply. And now your IE icon will vanish.

To restore that do the same.

If still you are getting your last IE6 icon then reinstall IE6
