I going to get my first part time job this summer, what things should I have with me prepared when applying?
I am just wondering what sorts of things should I have on hand when I go in to apply? I am just looking for part time jobs, this is not a full time or career type thing. I don't have any previous work experience, but I have a little bit of volunteer stuff. Should I make a resume/info sheet? How many references should I have on hand and who should these be considering i haven't been employed? What other info will I need when filling out applications that I should have ready with me so I don't have to call anyone or come back later? I haven't applied yet and I know it is a late start, but that is not what I am concerned about. I am going to be applying to a lot of retail type places and some small business type places. I am in my first year of college, so age is not at all a factor in this question. And please no comments about snobby, lazy, or whatever, that is just rude and uncalled for and you should not make judgments.

Any volunteering you have done, 3 references (example: teachers, people you have babysat for, and the like) (not family members) For the application: a person to contact for emergencies, schools you have attended and the years. And a smile. I never brought a resume for my first job. Employer know its your first, so they dont expect one. Be sure to let them know you are in college, its a plus, they know you are a committed person and are furthering your education and they may want to promote you once you are finished with your degree. Also check into the fact that some employers will help you pay for college if you are a loyal employee! Depending on where you apply.
