Can tile adhesive be removed? This is brown adhesive used to attach plastic tile to a backsplash.?
It is brittle but mostly firmly stuck to the raw wood plank wall. It does not dissolve in hot water like mastic. If I can't get it off, then what can I cover it with? The surface is very uneven. This is a backspash area and I do not want to take off the counter top, if possible.

Use a heat gun and a stiff putty knife. Works like a charm.

Try warming it up with a heat gun or a hair dryer. That may soften it enought to scrape it off easily.
