How do you get rid of a rootkit?
My sister is an idiot and downloaded tons of crap onto our computer.
She downloaded a rootkit and now its spreading rapidly.
It has been deleted in some windows files, but it seems to be coming back.
We have already tried avast and a antispyware that windows downloaded automatically.
It still comes back.
The spyware has blocked AVG's website from downloading anything.

My favourite tool for these situations is http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb...
Another method i use to remove malware from Windows is to boot into safe mode and see check the C:\Windows and C:\Windows\system32 for any suspicious files. You should enable the "View Hidden Files" option in My Computer.
Also, check the registry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
P.S. Watch this interesting video. Long, but very instructive:

Reinstall windows. Rootkits fundmanetally alter the operating system, they are nearly impossible to remove w/o just starting over.

Kim Komando's website has some links for rootkit removal. Go to www.komando.com and click on downloads.
