immigration forms for siblings?

i am tring to "claim" my sister she has been living here for 17 yrs she studied elementery through high school here but she had never need her papers in order till now what forms would i have to file and should i speak to a lawyer or can i do it by my self? she has a 2yrs old baby boy here can this effect her case?

    Well, if you're an American citizen, you can file an immigrant petition for her, but that won't help much. If you're not a citizen, there really isn't anything you can do. Petitions filed by Americans for brothers and sisters take a minimum of 11 years before they are valid for use. Up to that time, they don't provide any immigration benefits at all, so if she's illegal now, she'd remain illegal until the petition was valid. The American child can't provide her with any immigration status either, until he turns 21, at which point he could file his own petition for her. Check out uscis.gov for more information and forms.
