Turbo Tax + Stimulus Check = Paper Check???
I did our taxes at Turbotax.com for FREE. We had to pay taxes but asked them to take the payment out of our acct through DD. Our last two SSN is "43". Just right now I tried the "where's my stimulus" link on the irs.gov site and there was no info for us. So I got worried and called the IRS. She told me that ours will be a paper check??? Why is it that if they took the money through DD and it even shows up on our bank acct as (IRS DES:USATAXPYMT) exactly. Why are we getting a paper check as per the IRS rep???
We didn't do Direct Debit... we did Direct Deposit because I put the routing # and acct #
Thanks everyone! So pretty much I am right: Turbotax+StimulusCheck=PaperCheck

You didn't pay by direct deposit...it was a direct debit. You have to put information into the refund area to authorize the IRS to deposit money into your account.
Here is a direct quote from IRS website (this information was removed from their website early last week):
"Q. I chose direct debit to pay my tax bill. Will my Stimulus Payment be direct deposited to the same account?
A. No, the account information used for an incoming Direct Debit payment to the IRS cannot be used as the account information for the Direct Deposit of the stimulus payment. People who choose Direct Debit to pay a balance due will receive their stimulus payments by paper check through the mail. [Updated 3/3/08]
Q. I plan to choose direct debit to pay my tax bill. I know my economic Stimulus Payment will not automatically be direct deposited based upon the Direct Debit information I've provided to pay my tax bill, but can I also enter Direct Deposit information to receive my Stimulus Payment by Direct Deposit?
A. Some tax preparation software will allow this, some will not. You will have to make this determination based on your own review of the tax preparation software you use. If the tax software allows you to enter both Direct Debit (Electronic Funds Withdrawal), as well as Direct Deposit information, doing so will allow your economic stimulus payment to be Direct Deposited. [New 3/20/08]"

If you PAID the IRS from your bank account, that is a direct debit. (yes, you still had to put in your banking information to perform that function). A direct deposit means they are putting your refund directly into your account. You said you didn't get a refund.

I just spoke with a nice lady from the IRS. My husband and I filed through Turbo Tax and recieved our refund through direct deposit. She stated that last week they realized a problem with Turbo Tax. The IRS does not have our account numbers. The payment is sent to Turbo Tax's account first and then they send it to us...thats why your deposit says that. My husband's last two are 13 so ours was sent to Turbo Tax's account May 2nd along with the remaining recipients that filed with them 00-20 but as soon as that happened, Turbo Tax closed their account and sent the money back to the IRS. The IRS now has to recieve back in their system and then they will generate a check that will be mailed out to us. She said to allow 2-3 weeks to recieve your check via mail. Its very disapointing to hear this news and I wish they had a better method of relaying this info to us instead of us having to wait on hold for 30 minutes. I'm blessed to be getting anything. 2 days, 3 weeks, or a month...the money will come when you need the most. Praise God we are getting something. I hope this answer helps everyone. Hope you get it soon!!!!

Even though you made a payment using your bank information, you can only receive a direct deposit of the rebate if you entered the bank numbers on the refund line of your 1040. In your case, that wouldn't have been possible since you had a balance due. Paper checks will start going out May 16.

I'm pissed over that too! It seems like since the IRS specifically refers people to turbotax then they could have used these "temporay accounts" turbotax used to get people thei refunds. I mean I don't really understand how else you can request direct deposit. I've heard of people syaing they paid thier fees with a credit card and used direct deposit and yet are still ahvign to wait on a paper check. I did hear the paper checks are starting sooner than expected so maybe they will get in a few weeks earlier than scheduled. All in all, leave it to the government to get your hopes up and then just leave you disappointed!

this is all messed up. i wasn't in the first wave of direct deposits anyway but why can't they do checks and direct deposit at the same time? they should already know that i should get a paper check, right? or are they going to wait until the money is bounced back and then say, oh, yeah, ok, we need to send this person a paper check. or are they being "proactive"? i just don't understand why it is taking so long to get a paper check - i rec'd my notice that I was getting something about 6-8 wks ago (maybe 4-6) so why so long to print a check? i got my refund back in Feb.

My sister is in the same situation. I used turbotax to prepare her taxes, paid them by direct debit, AND provided her bank info for the rebate she was due AFTER they asked me how she wanted to recieve it and the info was still not provided to the IRS. She should have recieved a DD on May 2, but will instead get a paper check mailed May 30. Boooooooooo!!

Thanks for the info. Now I know I will just have to sit back and wait for it to come in June when scheduled for a paper check.
I am in the same boat. I used TT and had fees deducted. Will the ITS continue to try to direct deposit to TT/SBB&T and wait for the money to bounce back or will they just not try direct deposit for all others that used TT?
For the person that was supposed to get it on 5/2 and now has to wait for a check because TT closed the account, do you get a message on the IRS website "Where's my Stimulus Payment" that you are getting a paper check?
My number is 33 - do you think that I will get a message on the site saying that I have to wait for a paper check or will I have to wait for 6/6 to get the paper check or see a message on the site?
Thanks for any info.

If you paid the fee with a debit or credit card, it will be direct deposited and go in according to the IRS schedule, and depends on the last 2 digits of your SS number. If you had the fee taken out of your refund, you'll get a paper check.

It doesn't matter if you owed the IRS or got a refund.....if whoever you did your taxes with took their fee out of your refund (even if you got DIRECT DEPOSIT) you will get a paper check. They definitely could have clarified this a little better. I was pissed when I didn't get my check in my account last Friday. My social ends in 06 and they will send mine out May 16th.

Only those who received a REFUND via direct deposit are receiving their rebate by direct deposit. A withdrawal from your account to pay your taxes is not the same as a direct deposit.
