Babies need a firm mattress (and no pillow) for safe sleep and normal motor development. In order for your baby's muscles and skeleton to develop normally, they need a firm, flat surface. Once your baby learns to roll over to his/her tummy, there is also the risk for suffocation if he/she were to get stuck and not be able to roll back.

Babies need firm mattresses. A soft matress runs the risk of suffocation. I only paid about $60 for my mattress. You don't need to spend much on a baby mattress. They need to be firm and there shouldn't be any gaps between the crib and the mattress.

No...Babies mattresses are suppose to be really firm, for safety purposes. Wait until your child is out of a crib before you buy a memory foam mattress.

I got my son a simmons matress from babies r us for $110
Skip the gimicy mattresses like memory foam, its probably a cheap memory foam with a low density for that price, in which case it won't support the baby well anyway

I read some bad stuff about memory foam mattresses on a website (http://www.infomercialscams.com/) and they say that the material it's made of starts to break down and release nasty smelling gas after awhile. I'm not sure if it's true or not and probably depends on the brand but something to keep in mind when it comes to your baby's health.

I would get a regular mattress. Babies need a firmer surface to sleep on due to developing bones in their back. It may be great for someone full grown , but it may not be good for a baby.

I wouldn't!! They reccomend a firm or extra firm mattress for babies. Our is an x-firm!!
Also just wondering...how much are the "regular" mattress where you live?? $134.00 is not cheap, that is an expensive baby mattress!!! Ours is a Sealy from Wal-Mart and was $62.00!!! (We're in Canada)
Good luck!!

I have a 7 week old and we got the reversable mattress one side is hard (for an infant) and the other side is soft (for a toddles) you do not want to use anything too soft because your baby can suffocate because they cant control their head too well as an infant

There is a fair bit of concern over the chemicals released by these mattresses

I sleep on one and it's absolute Heaven. I would assume the same would be for the baby. I would just check on how safe they are, as it does tend to sink in (I'm thinking of suffocation problems). Just a thought, but if it doesn't have that risk that I'd say go for it!
