Finding a comfortable resting position can become difficult later in pregnancy.

    Recommendations:

    1. Don't take sleep medication.

    2. Try drinking warm milk at bedtime.

    3. Try taking a warm shower or bath before bedtime.

    4. Use extra pillows for support while sleeping. Lying on your side, place a pillow under your head, abdomen, behind your back and between your knees to prevent muscle strain and help you get the rest you need. You will probably feel better lying on your left side; this improves circulation of blood throughout your body.

they say its best to sleep on your left side, but its a load of **** really. Your having cramps in your leg because of all the pressure your putting on that one side. Rotate from side to side, whichever makes you feel more comfortable, I find that I am able to sleep better at night on my right side with pillows supporting my stomach so the pressure doesnt weigh down on my hips. And than I have two pillows behind my back so that I can lean a little, but not put all my weight onto my spinal cord and those major blood vessels that run along the backside.

It sounds like you have restless leg syndrome. I had that when I was PG with my two sets of twins...here are some of the things that help at night. If you still have it after your baby is born you might consider some medications that are available!

Pace, walk, or jog for a few minutes to relieve discomfort.

Stretch your legs, do knee bends, or rotate your ankles.

    Massage your legs.

Relax with meditation, yoga, or deep breathing.

Apply heat or cold. Take a bath or soak your feet in hot water, briefly use a heating pad or cold compresses, or apply a hot water bottle.

Lie on your side with a pillow between your knees to initiate sleep.

Sara has the right idea of it. I had problems sleeping, too, especially when they induced labor at the hospital. I was so uncomfortable they had to pack pillows around me. I had like 9 pillows surrounding me propping me up in various places. I don't know if you have gratuitous amounts of pillows like the hospital, but rolling up blankets and tucking them behind you might help. Also, try sliding a pillow under your bump, for support. (beware:if your baby is extremely active, they might try to beat the pillow away, seeing it as an invasion of their rightful space. *eyeroll* my daughter was like that.)
