would you agree with your state/federal government if they start allowing people to sell their kidneys ( and other organs )? Is this a good move ? state your reason .

I back Leftie's post but I also get the impression that people tend to be biased and blinded by sentimentality.
By the way my license states that I am an organ donor.
People already sell their hair, sperm, eggs, rent their womb...and sure only the rich can afford it.
People sell their kidneys in other parts of the world already.
It is your body afterall so surely people should be allowed to have the choice. ( hence the reason why abortion is legal here).
It is kind of difficult to imagine somebody doing that unless they happen to be in really dire straights but at the same time........maybe not that difficult either.
Am not talking about the imperatives of a healthy kidney or the consequences on one person's health for I do not know much about that.
I am sure some people on dialysis would not be against being the recipient of a healthy kidney if they could afford it.
People scream equality and all......well there is no equality in this world.
Think for example of IVF. OK, am not too sure about that. I think the government funds it but the waiting list is extremely long; I bet there are private practices like in other parts of the world which only the wealthy can benefit from. I realise that I am going on a tangent here; just trying to look at all angles.
Here in Canada, some treatments can only be done in another province and people do die because they can not afford either the treatment/flight etc. (there is a charity by the way to help some of those unfortunates..I briefly volunteered for one ).
Life is not fair and to pretend that it is is a bit naive.
So yes, I would back a state/government to allow people to sell their kidneys if they want to. Under strict supervision of course ( what if......the person later suffers from the remaining kidney's malfunction, concern about the family...etc).
All things medical always bring heavy and hearty debates anyway (stem cell, euthanasia....etc).
edit : thinking back..although people say that the Canadian health system is accessible to all.....yeah (but there can conditions etc) and here people do have to pay for their prescriptions unless they are retired or get companies' benefits and it is not a flat fee like in the UK.
Why should insulin for people who suffer diabetes melitus not be free like it is in other parts in the world. Have heard it can cost quite of few thousand $$$ to afford it and here you are talking about a matter of life and death...This is not Diabetes type 2 which could be the result of an unhealthy lifestyle. Some people are just born with it.
Why should not dentistry be free ? We are bombarded by news that gingivitis can affect the whole body. (not talking here about cosmetic dentistry of course)

OMG NO!!!
What if someone cannot afford it, are they supposed to die now? I truly believe that it is immoral and should not be allowed. Then not only the sick will end up screwed if they don't have much money, but other low income families will feel pressured to give their organs just to feed their families.
Organ donation should not become a business, there is already a problem with black market and if it is legalized it will become even worse. It should be done for other, not financially related reasons such as helping someone live

No - I don't think its a good idea
If people get desperate they will sell them - but its sad to be left in such a desperate state that you'd start selling off bits of your own body
Whatever next??

have you tried selling them at a yard sale or a town fair type thing? i know around where i live..every town has a fair..where people can sell there art and crafts, but that may not work for you..just saying... :)

Selling your organs?
Well donating would be much better. Why would someone want to do something good that can save someone else's lives for money?

NO to selling organs. Giving life should be a gift and not a profit.

go for it, i will be needing one soon and this would make it easier to obtain one. plus, plagues and stupidity are gods way of weaning out the weak, like in animals, only we embrass and call ours special where in nature, the kill and eat it to save the heard. Let em sell em, so then they can buy another one from someone else when the only 1 they got shuts down, just what we need to stimulate our dead economy.

If I were low on money, I would sell a kidney (depending on the how much money were talking about.)
I have another one, but if it quit working I would be in a predicament.

I don't think that would be a good move. People might murder people to get their organs to sell... that thought is probably pretty extreme, but I don't think it would be a good idea.

o dp not agree , first the gov should have no say so over what you do with your body or the parts of it. plus we shouldnt sell our organs anyways. then crazy people would be out there selling them all , or kill others so they can seel their parts off.
