Is hot water or cold water best when washing your face?
I know hot water opens up your pores and I usually use that when washing my face because I suppose my pores would absorb the medicine in the face wash better...but am I right in my thinking?
Cold water constricts your pores so is that better when you're putting on make-up and heading out? And is hot water better when you're just going to sleep? Or does it make no difference at all?
Thanks in advance. ;]
If it helps, I have very oily skin.

When you are washing your face, you need to splash your face with warm/hot water first, so the cleanser can wash deeply into your pores. After cleaning, you should rinse your face with cold water, so your pores close. If your pores are closed, then it will be harder for dirt to come in it, reducing the amount of oils and dirt on your face. Warm water is the best, because it won't dry out your skin. If you wash your face with cold water first, your pores will close and it won't clean correctly.

Ok I don't actually believe in any of this pore opening pore closing stuff, I mean why do they make BHA's if any old product can get into the pore as long as the water is hot? Hot water is not great for skin it causes damage and spider veins. But you should use lukewarm water, for the same reason doctors wash their hands with lukewarm water, it help get rid of the oil/residue better than cold. Just as a little extra, doctors rinse in cold water after washing in lukewarm because it kills bacteria the best, bacteria thrives in warmer temps. Kinda dull but I wash my hands like this 50 times a day haha.

Well, not HOT water, lukewarm or warm is fine. It opens up your pores, so you should do that and then wash and do your facial activities(whatever they may be ie. exfoiliating and such.) Finish off with a splash of cool water, to close your pores. (You dont want open pores all day, because you could get oil and bacteria in there even quicker than normally.) Then pat your face with a towel, no rubbing! Good luck :]

well it really all depends on age and oily skin but start with hot then go to cold it will break up the oil then you use the cold to seal the pores so they dont stay open that long but just set a hot rag on first for 2 min then clean then rinse then cool. hope this helps

I would use lukewarm water to wash my face with and then splash cold water onto my face afterwards.
I'm not sure whether it makes any difference for putting make-up on or going to sleep but I find it's a good pick-me-up during the day.

Wash it with warm water and then right before you turn the water off, splash with cool water.

warm water, it opens up your pores and lets your face wash actually do its job. just make sure you rinse it all out!
