Does DNA mutate with evolution ?

Update:

Thanks so far !! The reason I ask is because someone today used the argument that DNA did not mutate so supporting the creation theory !!!

DNA does mutate, but new design information is not added to the code, mutations are the missing of information,or the duplicating of information, ie missing limbs, extra limbs,in other words a slight mix up. New design information is never added. You can have a chihuahua or a great dane for example, but both come from the same pre-existing design code. long limbs or short limbs for example are still the same limb design. You will note this in every case a genuine example of mutation or natural selection is sited. If you are told ( as most text books still teach) that this proves one animal kind evolved from another, you may need to do a little un bias thinking of your own!!! Don't believe every conclusion you are taught, and beware you know the difference between a fact and someones conclusion, (which is usually tainted by their philosophical paradigm).

Evolution is the result of DNA mutation. If DNA never changed, the result would be organisms that never change. It is only when DNA mutates that the possibility of a new organism feature may be beneficial. A.K.A. an adaption. Most mutations are not beneficial. (Darn no new super powers soon) These organisms with the best adaptions will outcompete the organisms with inferior adaptions.

So when you say "with", I guess that is an OK statement because they do go hand in hand, like peas and carrots, peanut butter and jelly.

Please make sure that DNA mutations are the dependent variable and evolution is the Independent variable. Mutations must come first, then you sit back and enjoy the show...

It's not that DNA mutates with evolution - it's that DNA mutation causes the variation that is selected for in natural selection.

And this (the whole thing) is the process of evolution.

Yes, DNA mutates with or without evolution. Though it is an integral part of natural selection, it will occur with or without evolution.

It is subject to Murphy's law also.

  • yes as evolution goes on mutations will happen, thats why we can crossbreed dogs to make themheterozygous. mutations are a recessive trait as well.
