How do 'traditional' football fans view 'fantasy football' fans?

Nerds?

Normal people with a 'problem'?

Just like any other fans, just cheering at the wrong times?

Sexy?

Other?

What is the public perception of fantasy football?

10+ Points for Best Answer, plus Oprah's new book "How I Became a Planet."

I think it's hot. Smart guys turn me on.

And I don't have to read the book to know how Oprah became a planet...she ate to much fried chicken....even her personal chef is fat! hahahha

    Ooo this is hard...

Well first off...we are sexy, please get it straight...

I think a fantasy football fan is a football fan first and then a fantasy player second. Each year, you as a football fan root for your team, but deep down your like...come on LT, get me 3 TD's but the 49ers still win 24 - 21. Thoughts like that tend to go through the head of a fantasy football player.

You being one yourself, the fantasy football fan base is more consisted of people who watch the games to check their stats. I watch the 49ers all the time no matter if I don't have anybody on that team, however, I watch more games that have no interest to me because I might have somebody playing that day, or the opponent does.

There is a reason you hear a lot of fantasy stuff about fantasy football. Its the biggest fantasy game there is out there...yes beating out fantasy bass fishing. Fantasy football sort of has an art form to being a fan of another team just because you have a player on it...and the best example I can think of is from Madden 06 where Tony Bruno goes...

"You want Tom Brady to do so well, but your a Dolphins fan, so you want it to be 42 - 41 with Brady throwing 6 TD's passes, but your team still winning."

    When football season comes around...

That's what happens when fantasy football players meet fans. Your fantasy football team is second, but your favorite team should be first.

    Good luck!!

Edit: Solat, send it this way...We've got a fantasy baseball league full of Y!A people...might as well get some football ones going...and 12 is my max number for teams.

  • Well i look at them with fans who take it to a extra level. I mean you can look at people who play fantasy football but people who play have way to much time on their hands. An with ESPN analyst doing reports on fantasy football it adds on to a whole new level of gambling which most people who participate in fantasy football are in it for money an prizes but others do it for the fun of it an others just do it because they are obsessed with it. Which those kind of people you can call them nerds. But if your a fan an you want your team to win but the guy next to you wants your team to lose just so he gets points for his fantasy football then that ticks you off a bit.

I am both so I can't answer BUT, there are alot a traditional fans that rip fantasy & fantasy geeks..... i'm guessing they just don't understand.

I'll be in for a Y/A football league, I was in 13 leagues last season..... down sizing from 24 the year before. I don't stray from Yahoo much these days.... it's just so easy to keep them all in one place.

Fantasy football is an absolute blast, and those enthusiasts who like fantasy football seem a bit less biased about teams than traditional fans. They may dislike New England, but Brady doesn't "suck", and let's face it, it gives a new twist to a game I already love.

I love both. With a regular football team I usually root, cheer, etc., maybe look at the stats. But with Fantasy, I am on the computer 6 hrs/1 day on Sunday. Usually you can't root for all of your teams, just the players on the team.

They probably think fantasy football is for obsessive sports geeks....a bunch of dorks who were never good enough to actually make their own high school team, now pretending to have some sort of controll over the sport.....over the last few years I've gotten some family members/friends to change their perception of it by forcing them to join my league :-)

I for one am a fantasy football junkie. I usually play in 3 leagues every season. Maybe some of us YA football folks should set ourselves up a league this year. That would be a good time. I tried a new free site last year that blows Yahoo away. I'll email you about it later and we can check it out if you'd like

I would say Nerds generally I'm a Fantasy Geek but I still like watching it more than anything.

you can keep your Oprah book.

I am both, at first I didn't understand it. But once i learned the game it became fun.

The only problem I have is when I have to chose between my team and my fantasy team. My Fantasy team loses every time.

I play.. It is a real test of both your Football Fanhood and knowledge... It adds a different element to Sundays beyond your normal rooting for your own team.. When watching other games it gives you something to cheer for....
