Do you mean primary and secondary succession? If so, primary succession is the developmnet of a climax community of plants, tress, etc in a place where some sort of disturbance has removed ALL vegetation from an area. Secondary succession is when a disturbance wipes out some vegetation like large trees and plants, but leaves soil and grassland... so you are not starting over from scratch.
