Football Team Captains??
Arsene Wenger has said today on Arsenal.com
link: http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?thisNav=News&ar...
that William Gallas being the Captain this season is not to blame - no one has said that! Arsenal is a team, but a team NEEDS to have a good Captain - that is not Gallas!
Arsene Wenger has not made a decision as to wether Gallas shall be Captain or not for 08/09 - do you think he should be given another season as Captain or someone else?
Other teams fans, do you agree with your teams Captain or would you prefer someone else? who?
Our Eli - I welcome comments from everyone, whatever team you support, unlike some people on here!! so thank you for yours.
Giggs - NO! both of you grow up and sort it out please.
Urag - your late for school, bye bye.
Ali-Al - Love the saying from your coach, would i be able to borrow that from you for future use please? its spot on.
THANKS ALI_AL !!
John C - Thierry IS NOT coming back to Arsenal ! Never !

Having watched one of your games where Gallas was on the pitch not doing much i agree that he isn't a natural captain then Gilberto Silva came on and geed everyone up and started to inspire some of the younger players around him , If Wenge does keep him then make him captain if not the Toure.
As for my team City , Richard Dunne is and has been a great captain he has brought on Micah Richards a lot by his enthusiasm and example. He has just been voted player of the year by the fans for the fourth year running a record so it obviously doesn't affect him being captain. (which would be my worry about Cesc i would let him just concentrate on his game as he is so pivotal in how Arsenal play their lovely football).

What Mr. Wenger doesn't say is that Gallas went missing at the moment he was most needed.
No, the end of season disappointment isn't solely down to Gallas, or even mostly, but he did play his part.
Conversely, if it wasn't for three refereeing decisions you might still be flying in the two main competitions, and this debate would never have happened.

No, I don't believe Gallas should be captin next season. William Gallas is to self absorbed to be a good captin and can't even manage his own ego. I regularly heard gallas refer in interviews to "my team" which says it all really. I think he's a great player but a captin needs to have the ability to keeps heads up and be the rock for the team not the centre of it.
I don't see many better candidates at present though and thing Arsenal need to buy someone with real leadership qualities.

I agree with you, Gallas lacks the maturity to really inspire that team and do all the things that a true Captain does. As my basketball coach use to say "A great player isn't just great for their achievements but a great player is great because they make those around them better." I feel that a Captain should be great in this way, almost selfless in his pursuit of helping the team.
I love Neville as our Captain and I feel that Giggs and Rio have done a great job while he has been out.
Edit: Yeah sure, borrow it all you like, I feel that kind of thing isn't embraced much in sport these days. "These days." lol I've been in the real world too long lol.

At least i think william gallas is more vocal than the rest of the team. I have seen him giving motivational talks to the team before the game starts. but when the actual play begins, he hardly inspires.
Maybe if henry comes back to arsenal, he can be captain. i think many gunners fans are hoping for him to return.

I believe Toure would make a better captain than Gallas next season for Arsenal.
As for my team, Ipswich, our captain Jason De Vos has just retired and I think right back David Wright would make a good captain next season.

From the t.v coverage I've seen it's plain to see Gallas has not done himself justice as captain and it would be a shock to see him retain the captaincy for next season.
I don't know enough about your team to comment on who should be made captian but from what I've seen Arsenal have still not replaced the on field leadership qualities that Vierra had.
I wouldn't swap our captain, Ian Ashbee, for anyone.

I still class Gallas as a Chelsea player and for that reason he should not be captainn of Arsenal. I think we saw enough in the Birmingham game to realise that he is not fit for the job, his temper tantrum and sulks tells me he should have stayed at Chelsea , and his haircut looks stupid theres another reason. Fabregas should be captain.

i agree-how can you make a guy captain whose only been with the club for a year-which gallas was when he was made captain
i think weither gilberto or toure should be made captain-coz i think they've got that fighting spirit
out of the two i'd rather see gilberto be captain-coz when he was put on the bench he never once moaned or groaned,he deserves too be skipper-for showing loyalty tothe club(flamini take notice-that's the way it should have been done)
cesc wouldn't be bad either-but i think at 21 he's a little young and immature!!!!
and for england i say:John Terry and Steven Gerrard as co-captain!!!!

fabregas is too young to be captain and gallas isnt soo good at it either as you guys all know i think wenger got a big decision to make i mean all he has is young players the only experienced people he got are almunia (lehman is leaving), toure, gallas, and sandrose and am pretty sure they would all suck at being captains maybe almunia??
