Am I able to trade in my Macbook computer for a MacBook Pro (for a reduced cost)?

You can but only for education and business customers.
Your best bet is to sell your MacBook to someone via eBay or some other such service. If it's relatively new and in good condition with all the cables and disks it came with you should be able to get a decent price for it.
Macs keep their value relatively well. Just check out eBay to see what similarly speced machines got. But don't expect more than $400-$600 unless it's no more than a year or two old.
