Natural henna is not damaging, but beware of compound henna, which often contains metallic salts. Metallic salts bind permanently to the hair, and if ammonia based haircolor, perm, or relaxer chemicals are applied over hair treated with compound henna, melting, breakage, or an off-color (usually green) can occur. Unfortunately, compound hennas are not always labeled as such, and obvious metallic salt ingredients are not always listed. Be sure to research any henna brand thoroughly before applying. Not at all! Henna is not really dye, it's a natural condtioner. It just happens to have a brown/red tint which can be used to dye hair.

no, in fact henna is the most natural and oldest way of dying hair. Its all herbal and it smells good too. It wont be too harsh and will just give enough colour to make the hair shiny.
