Essay - Prasing someone for noble actions?

I have to write an essay for a college prep summer camp and I am having some trouble.

Here is the prompt:

"Imagine that you have been called on to speak before an audience praising a literary or historical figure for his or her actions. How would you honor this person?

In a one-page paper, write a speech praising a historical figure for his or her virtues. You paper should clearly define the virtue you have chosen to address and should provide concrete example that display the figure's virtues."

I am having trouble coming up with a person that really stands out to me. I was thinking of writing on Queen Elizabeth I, but my parents think that an American figure would be better. Any ideas? Any and all would be appreciated!!!

In my personal opinion, I would suggest Martin Luther King, Jr. The reasoning behind this is based upon multiple elements. The first is that I am assuming that you are not of a minority ethnic background based upon your name and choice of person to consider writing on. (No offense intended in any manner).

The second element is that IF I am correct on the first element, there is a very high percentage of probability that unless the teacher has a racial issue, he/she would be impressed because you chose someone who was highly respected, and is of a different ethnic/cultural background.

Third element is that racial issues are a part of the current presidential candidates topics and concerns. This would enhance the image for you for writing on someone whose accomplishments and influence still plays a part in society today.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was fighting for at the time. ... regarded as one of the towering world-historical figures of the 20th century. He was a Nobel peace prize winner.

I hope my contribution here will be of some assistance to you.

  • Why not "Jesus" He is the most virtuous subject there is! Unfortunately, it will probably be original, too.
