Probably, whether the people in that democracy would want capitalism back is another matter (look at how quickly the formerly communist countries embraced workable economics after the Soviet Union fell).

If capitalism works better than anything else we know of, the voters will demand it and if they demand something they get it, maybe not instantly but they get what they want or it becomes a non-democracy.

Of course democracy can exist in a society without a capitalistic economic system. People are still allowed to vote for their leaders and representatives regardless of whether private property is allowed. If people elect to eradicate private ownership, they are exercising their rights as a democracy.

A large Democracy cannot survive at all. In the U.S. we have a Representative Republic (I know kind of redundant) and I seriously doubt that it could last without a Capitalistic economy.

They are one and the same. We used to be a republic, a government of the people, by the people and for the people. They gradually switched us from a republic to a democracy so slowly we began to believe that democracy was the same as a republic. Mainly because nothing seemed to change at first. Then it began and now, here we are at the bottom of a cesspool.

    Yes.

Capitalism and Socialism are economic structures.

Democracy and Communism are governing structures.

You can mix and match if you want.

Many miseducated people confuse the economic structures with political ideals and that results in alot of division and confusion.

Hitler was actually AGAINST the Socialists (Democrats) and favored Communism over Parlaimentary Government (having a "congress")...

but they don't teach that part in High School anymore...

The thumbs down I got are just more evidence that Americans are largely confused about this...

As well as R & S could expect to make it through the evening without an off-topic post, I suppose.

Democracy was invented by the Greeks.
