Can one replace/repair a 4-pin USB port on an HP printer?
I have an HP printer 2210ix, PSC, all works except the 4 pin USB port is missing one pin, so it can't be connected to the computer. Is it possible to replace this unit on the printer with a new one, is there a place to buy the part? Has anyone done it, is it simple or needing soldering, etc?
Thanks for replies so far. Anyone know what the part might be called? I was thinking to use a junk HP printer to use as parts. Is it possible to replace the whole board, or is this board related to printer model? My father bought the printer, and the copy function works, so already he's content with that. already he bought a cord and ink, so he's invested in it. Would like to fix it for him cheap if possible...
If I had a junk HP printer right now - that I found in trash, then I could take it apart and know some of these answers. Anyone done the repair?

usb ports are always soldered onto boards.
it might be possible, but probably difficult.

You will have to buy the part from HP from the web site and you will have to solder it onto the board it resides on. What Cajun said is correct.
Honestly you'd be better off buying a Lexmark printer at Walmart for $20.00 and some ink for $8.00 and be done with it. It will save you tons of time and headache.

My company bought about 10 of them from Radio Shack. Check with them, they should surely have one.
