I don't know, but you should get some facts straight: the Bible is a book of verses, not stories. Also remember that being a man doesn't rule out the possibility of being God as well; that's called Incarnation. When God takes up residence in writers--inspiration. Thus the boundaries between God and men are tenuous, sometimes illusory.

Congratulations on having a brain and not being afraid to use it. No, no, and no! You are going to live a long and inspired life because you question others' reality and try to make sense of it.

Of course the bible was written by "mortal men."

The bible could have turned out lots of ways, but certain stories endured, and I emphasize "stories."

Biblical times were days of extreme superstition, lack of education, and some really scary stuff with no explanation.

I believe the wise men of the times formulated these "stories," into a usable format, so that people wouldn't feel so darned scared all the time.

Their lives were such "hell," that the only thing that kept them going was the hope that someday they would live out eternity on a cloud in this awesome place...no pain, no hunger, no drought, no illness, no torture, no slavery, no typhoons, pestilence, coveting, adultery....you get the gist....Ten Commandments...like the US Constitution....words of the times.....a textbook for living. And throw in some fire and brimstone to deter those that might follow a less righteous path, and we have Hell.

People need rules; it makes them feel more secure, and fosters a belief there is someone taking care of them . In that sense, the bible is a good thing....a virtual handbook for humanity. All religions basically follow the same tenet. The good shall be rewarded, the bad...well, you know.

Unfortunately, as most of us realize, those rules do not apply. Good people get screwed over all the time, but what a lovely fairytale to believe that they will burn in eternal damnation. Makes it easier to cope for all the have-nots.

When you read The King James version of the Holy Bible, you are reading past, present and future. After all, The Bible was written by men inspired of GOD! And if GOD inspired men of old, be it far from me to question that authority...And the only reason or way that you will go to hell is, not to ask GOD to forgive you of your sins. And if you choose to go, you will be an intruder into Satan's realm. Hell was prepared for Satan and all his angels, but after sin entered into the world, it became a place for ALL sinners and the ungodly, and that is only the first death. The second death is to be judged and to be cast into outer darkness, and the lake of fire and brimstone, where the worm dieth not for all eternity. My, My, that is a terrible, and horrible thought. Just imagine how merciful GOD is while you yet live, He will save you and you will spend eternity in Heaven with Him.

If you think the Bible is stories written by men you shouldn't even believe in hell. Only God knows how is going to Heaven or hell, it's not according to what you believe but to your heart.

You can't go to hell. There is not one. Jesus said, "Fear not...I have the keys of death and hell..." Then there must have been a way out, right? However, the book of Revelation was fulfilled in AD 70 and it claims that hell was cast into the lake of fire. So, hell doesn't exist. The only hell is the ones we humans make for each other. The false doctrines of religion has kept more people in a living hell than anything else. Remember....God is not a religion. God has nothing to do with religion. God is not religious. God is Spirit and Love. Religion is man's way of controlling people and extorting money from them. Get away from religion, and get close to God. www.truth-over-tradition.com

According to the men who wrote the Bible, you will be. But, if you don't believe their stories, then why would you believe there is a Hell and you are bound for it?

Don't you think the rooms in that place should be reserved for murderers, child molesters and those who commit genocide?

Last time I checked, those who were imprisoned or persecuted for criticizing the written law were labeled "political prisoners" and their incarcerators are "malicious dictators" or "tyrants."

This would make you (and me) God's political prisoners, wouldn't it?

    Just a thought.

I have a section of the bible here, I thumb through it and am amazed at how much it blatantly urges people to act like passive lambs, just waiting for the voice of god and basically tells people don't do anything, just be passive. Just trust. Just sit there.

I don't believe its anything but a vehicle for ruling people, used and abused, along with the hearts and lives of many. When we all get to hell, lets meet at the bar.

The Bible accounts were written by men but men under the direct guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. A person go's to hell by rejecting the salvation message of the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I am commissioned by Jesus to preach the gospel to the whole world but it's up to the person hearing that gospel to respond either positively or negatively.

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

    That is my commission.

    Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

That is the salvation message, the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and it shows you what you must do to be saved. All of this is written in the Bible and if you reject it then that is on your own head not mine. You have been told.

Of course the Bible was written by men.

What did it do, fall from the sky one day with the signature of God on it?

Men have manufactured thousands of religions over approximately 100,000 years...but this one was finally right?

If you believe it is the word of God, then you will live according to it, If not, then you will live according to whether you believe the man.

God gave His word to men He chose to write into books and papers His word.
