Good Karaoke Room Spot for Birthday in NYC?

A friend of mine wants me to put together a Karaoke Party for her. We want a private living room type of space rather than a required public spectacle.

I know of several places but have to admit that I have only been to 2 recently - Sing Sing on Ave A and BINY near the Holland Tunnel.

I already looked on CitySearch and Sing Sing got BAD reviews for the conditions of the private rooms. I already know the service is bad from being in the bar area last week, so I wasn't surprised by that. But "nasty" is not an option.

One thing I like about BINY is that they charge you a particular rate for the room, but they subtract from that bill anything that you spend on food and drink. It's just not in a convenient place for the people who will be attending. Besides, I want to know my other options.

All I see on Citysearch is stories about overcharging, run-down/dirty private rooms, and surly service. Anyone know of a consistently good spot?

Update:

I really prefer a place that does what BINY does - Charges you a minimum rate, then deducts what you consume.

But I am not willing to pay a crazy amt like $400 for that base rate (as Congee Village charges).

There are several of these kind of Karaoke places in Koreatown on 37th off 6th Avenue as well as other parts of the city and in the boroughs. See the link below for addresses and customer reviews.
